what is your favorite unique jam the dead played?

by unique i mean something that doesnt have a theme that occurs numerous times throughout various concerts(ie feelin groovy, slipknot, PITB jam, MLB jam, etc). although if there is a very special version of a thematic jam, by all means mention it.

im looking for jams that showcase the band's ability to create and explore on stage; jams that made the dead a one of a kind band

ill start with my current favorite: the post truckin jam > mlb jam from 5/19/74

10/20/89 pre-drums "Chaos Jam" as I call it is pretty intense.

By the way, you violated your own rule... you said no thematic jams... that were repeated... but chose an MLB jam. Perhaps you feel that one to be unique?

Here's a goodie from '74. If you have the DP 31 then you know what I'm talking about. Otherwise, here's a nice AUD to listen to.

Check out the Truckin' > Stella. The Jam is exceptional.

Peace.

I've had this site bookmarked for a couple of months now. It's by no means all inclusive, but everything I've checked out from it has been outstanding.

Peace.

Let It Grow > Other One > It's a Sin Jam

I don't think it gets any further out there, yet totally together as this.

"You're probably wondering why we called you all here tonight. The upshot of it is, that one of ya is a Venusian spy. We believe that this spy will reveal him/his or herself shortly."

'73/74 are so full of long themeless jams, it's hard to choose....but from '71/72, I have a few favorites of melodic jams that were played only once (shamelessly lifted from my Mind Left Body post) -

the "Beautiful Jam" in the 2/18/71 Dark Star -
http://www.archive.org/details/gd71-02-18.sbd.orf.107.sbeok.shnf
the "almost-China Cat jam" in the 8/14/71 Other One -
http://www.archive.org/details/gd71-08-14.sbd.ladner.21268.sbeok.shnf
the lovely, unusual cross between Bobby McGee and Bid You Goodnight that pops up at the end of the 3/22/72 Caution (available on the Rockin' the Rhein bonus disc) -
and the long, tantalizing "almost-Spanish jam" in the 7/25/72 Other One.

A while ago, SkyDawg also had a couple good recommendations, from 4/21/72 and 4/15/70:

currently, the longest track i have that is just labeled "jam" is another excursion out of truckin': 3/24/73

but i am processing your query for an actual answer. if i come up with something i will revise. "FAVORITE"? -- that's an adjective. but in this context... a qualifier. one i could never own up to.....
